A Chat With The Skyscanner Developers

skyscanner iphone 300x218 A Chat With The Skyscanner DevelopersFollowing the success of the Skyscanner app which hit 100k downloads in 6 days, 650k downloads in less than 3 weeks and 2 million downloads in the same week they launched an Android app we decided it was time to have a chat with the guys behind one of Apple’s most popular apps.

When the first Skyscanner ‘All flights, everywhere’ flight search app was launched earlier in the year, the basic premise was to give iPhone users, and Skyscanner customers, the accessibility to check flight prices while on the go.

While Version 1 was a roaring success but we wanted to make Version 2 even more powerful, giving our customers all the best bits from the website that they already love and use. We were also champing at the bit to beat our previous record of one million downloads in five weeks for Version 1!

So here at Skyscanner HQ we set about creating Version 2; an all-powerful, super-fast and flexible app that gives users the full functionality of the website in the palm of their hands. Customers can find flights from specific airports, cities and countries while searches can be done using exact dates, weeks and months or even the whole year.

If users are looking for inspiration or are not sure where they want to fly, they can use the fantastic ‘everywhere’ flight search tool that will show the best priced flights to countries and cities across the globe, departing from their nearest airport.

The Version 2 app has the same handy views as the website, like chart view that shows users the best deals across a whole month, to all the same filters leaving customers able to search by preferred airports, airlines, times and prices.

We listened to what our customers said and what they wanted most was something that saved them time as well as money. Out Version 2 app aims to fulfil this brief by offering unique search capabilities and getting users their flight prices quicker and cheaper. Comparing millions of routes and searching hundreds of airlines and agencies, the Version 2 app finds our customers the best flight prices around, saving them money as well as time.

Users can then either share their flight information with friends, go directly to the site and book their flights or even save their search details and come back to them another time.

Check out our YouTube video which demonstrates our nifty app in action:

Also available for Android, we believe that the Version 2 app really is the must have tool for all canny travellers out there. There’s no reason not to download it – it’s fast, it’s available in 23 languages and best of all, it’s free!
